About
Vaida Valanciunaite is a Lithuanian-born artist based in Groningen, exploring materiality through wax and mixed media.

I am originally from Lithuania and moved to the Netherlands in 2012 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. During my studies I co-founded Stichting MOC, providing affordable studios for artists and musicians. The pandemic prompted me to reflect on my practice, leading me to Barcelona before returning to Groningen to focus solely on my own work and pursue a Master’s in Fine Arts.
My primary medium is wax—its translucency and texture allow me to build layers that blur the boundary between form and fluidity. Each piece investigates the dialogue between material and meaning, inviting viewers to engage with both surface and depth.
In 2024 I was nominated for an exchange at Hunter College, New York, marking a new chapter in my exploration of material-driven abstraction.
